CALL FOR SPEAKERS
This Call for Speakers is for WCA 2008, the upcoming Spring edition of the world's leading broadband wireless industry event. The Call encompasses general presentations covering business and regulatory topics, as well as technical discussions of special importance. Business and regulatory topics, whether proposed for a presenter or panel format, will be evaluated on the basis of audience appeal and importance. Judging is on the basis of whether the proposed presentation would provide information that is original and otherwise important to this highly qualified audience. All approved presentations and papers will be made available to delegates and others for reference. This event is organized by the Wireless Communications Association International (WCA).
Keys For Successful Submissions:
  • Focus your proposal on why your topic would be original and otherwise important to this audience, which is so highly qualified that it does not need BWA context or rhetoric.

  • Emphasize how the topic and discussion relate to the speaker's role in relevant industry efforts on the issues, with top priority granted to those active in WCA committees. WCA audiences are more likely to care for the words and leadership of those working on issues throughout the year, for obvious reasons.

  • Describe the proposed format (co-panelists, moderator, etc.) and any special efforts that would be made to bring new entrants to the event. Supplier discussions are typically enhanced, for example, by a commitment from co-presenter who is a major or otherwise interesting customer from a nation or sector new to WCA audiences.

  • Underscore your speaker's understanding that the discussion should be educational, with NO marketing of products. Marketing is for the exhibit floor, receptions, sponsorships, etc. If the speaker is not committed to using these traditional means it is vital to address the reason or the presumption is likely to put the presentation at risk

  • Illustrate how your organization would help WCA build the audience that your discussion deserves through effective outreach to potential attendees via mailings, PR, etc. Will there be a demo or major announcement? If so that makes for a stronger submission. WCA Communications Director Susan Polyakova (susan@wcai.com) will work on a confidential basis for an effective public relations strategy using WCA's targeted database of 2,800+ relevant reporters and analysts.

  • Review previous WCA speaker programs and marketing materials: www.wcai.com/events.php

  • WCA recommends close review of these tips for successful submissions. In particular, WCA is keen to hear how companies will be working with us on co-promotional efforts that ensure maximization of the event experience and success for all. Failure to address the most significant and relevant questions above typically means an unsuccessful submission due to the competitive nature of this process.

Submission Process:
  • Proposals must include: draft paper title, author's name, title and full contact information for primary and co-authors. Abstracts should provide enough specifics of the proposed paper (previously unpublished) to show its premise, content, reference value and intended audience (including band, if applicable). The prospective appeal to an audience of operators, OEMs, etc., must be defined.

  • Business & Regulatory proposals also should include title, presenter's name, title and full contact information. If a panel format has been selected, it should include proposed co-panelists (also with full name and title). A plan to help recruit a strong panel will assist greatly in a proposal's success.

  • WCA membership required.

  • Please email the WCA's Events and Programs Coordinator, Meredith Cicerchia (meredith@wcai.com) with further questions.

  • Judging is on a rolling basis, helping early submissions.

  • Please submit through secure WCA website (www.wcai.com)

  • SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 23, 2008
