WCA Engineering Committee was created to promote the development of the BWA industry discussing from technical to regulatory issues. This Committee is a proven forum and advocacy center for the most pressing standards and regulatory issues facing the broadband wireless industry.

WCA Engineering Committee's leadership encourages the participation of WCA members to develop several topics in both licensed and license-exempt bands.

As Chairman, Harry Perlow of Sprint Nextel leads presentations through Task Forces addressing vital technical, regulatory, interoperability, standardization and homeland security issues. The Committee's mission is to provide operator/carrier leadership on key technical issues that will advance wireless deployment.

The WCA annual conferences in San Jose, CA each November and in Washington, D.C. each April are the most visible elements of the Committee's work, and gather leading representatives of the industry to provide guidance on technical issues that are vital to successful broadband wireless access. Typically at the WCA annual spring and fall shows each Task Force leader presents a topic and a task sheet including the following steps:

1. Issue
2. Timeframe & Milestone(s)
3. Background
4. References
5. Alternative Positions
6. Recommended WCA Position
7. Next Steps
8. Recommendation White-Paper

The Committee's work is carried on in this fashion throughout the year, with conference calls every two weeks on alternative Thursdays, beginning at 4 p.m. (Eastern). The calls and email alerts are open to employees of WCA member companies.
